QUESTIONS?

Director of Children & Families Ministry
Wendy Ann Mitchell is a musician, writer, wife and mother or three children and a black lab rescue dog. With over 17 years of experience working in children's ministry, Wendy brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and creativity to Wilton Congregational Church. Her passion is to live a life of service to encourage children and youth to become all that God has created them to be. A nurturing leader who uses the arts in lessons to follow Jesus' example of making sermons come to life through illustrations, her style of teaching includes engaging story-telling through the use of puppets, visual aids and songs and interactive skits and sermons with plenty of hands-on fun.
Wendy studied Child Development at Post University and is Head Teacher Certified through the State of Connecticut in Early Childhood Education. In addition, she is also certified in Godly Play (Episcopal), Vertus (Catholic), Safe Church (Methodist) and ASCI (Association of Christian Schools International), has many years of leadership and disciple training through workshops, seminars and conferences and has over 25 years of experience teaching children. She has also obtained CEU's with Yale Divinity School in youth leadership and the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI) CEU's in Christian Education.

After the tragic shootings in her hometown of Sandy Hook, she became the founder and Executive Director of the award winning Sandy Hook Arts Center for Kids (SHACK). Wendy created, developed and implemented a number of programs that helped the community heal through the arts. By partnering with local businesses, town officials and recruiting a small army of willing volunteers, Wendy was able to help hundreds of members of the community heal through the power of the arts. Through her work, she was awarded #7 of 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013 in the Greater Danbury area by Hearst Media Services.

Wendy lives in Ridgefield with her husband of 23 years and their two children-- Ruby, 17 and Cullen, 21.

Who We Are
Wilton Congregational Church is a vibrant community of people who come together to worship God, follow Christ, and share our individual faith journeys. We are a movement with a passion, energy and commitment to serve society and transform lives.
Together we care for one another and celebrate life, just as we have since 1726. Wilton Congregational Church is a member of the United Church of Christ.

The Call
We are called together as a church community to receive, nurture, and treasure each child as a gift from God and to give high priority to the quality of planning for children and the equipping of those who minister to them.
We are called to love, protect, and provide a solid faith foundation as they journey throughout life.
We are the partners of parents, providing support and spiritual direction in caring for their children as followers of Christ and helping them as they navigate the murky waters of life and the challenges it may bring.
